About
Since 2011, ArtSketch has interviewed illustrators, character designers, concept artists and animators about how they learned and how they work.
ArtSketch interviews artists about how they work: how they started, how they learned, the tools and habits behind the pictures, and what they would tell someone just starting out.
A short history
ArtSketch started in 2011 as a small independent site, talking to illustrators, character designers, concept artists and animators. It ran until 2014. Now the interviews live here again, on a site of their own.
How the archive is presented
The interviews appear as they originally ran. The artists’ answers are their own words, with only obvious spelling slips corrected, and each interview keeps its original publication date, so some of the details (jobs, tools, plans) describe where the artist was at the time.
The artwork shown with the archive interviews (2011 to 2014) was selected from the artists’ public portfolios. All artwork belongs to the artists.
Who made it
ArtSketch was created by Scott Harris, an artist and teacher who also runs Character Art School, an online school for learning to draw characters.
